_____Checklist for camping/long trips
Here are "10 Songs for an Audio Test Drive" and what to listen for in each track:
"Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones. Listen for Norah's voice to sound natural, and centered in front of you.
"Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez. Listen for strong vocals, and for the instruments to be set across a wide sound stage
"No One" by Alicia Keys. Listen for clarity in Alicia's vocals and spacious background sound.
"Hotel California" by the Eagles. Listen for the clarity and dynamic range during the opening guitar solo, and of course the powerful drum beat.
"Boom Boom Pow"by the Black Eyed Peas. Listen for powerful, accurate bass beats, even at full volume.
"Rock that Body"by the Black Eyed Peas. Listen clear, intelligible lyrics over the powerful, persistent bass beat.
"Hide and Seek"by Imogen Heap. Listen for the enveloping ambience of the song, building on the openness and dynamic vocals.
"He Mele No Lilo" by Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu from Lilo and Stitch.Listen for the ambience and staging as the children's chorus is offset by powerful bass.
"Bird on a Wire" by Johnny Cash. Listen for the clarity in Johnny's distinctive voice, and his guitar to sound natural and free of any coloration.
"Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box"by Radiohead. Listen for the punch from the percussive bass, and the ring of the steel drums.
Passport Photos
I have succesfully printed and used Passport Photos (2 X 2) for US passport & Green Card. Here is how. Make sure the camera you are about to use has a focus circle in the center with focus brackets (SLR). Let the person of interest stand against (very close to the wall) a white or off-white background (most apartment wall color is off-white) and obey all other requirements like no ear-rings and no bindi. Set the camera in auto mode with forced flash. Focus the camera on the person's face such that the face fills the focus circle mentioned before. The camera lense and flash must be perpendicular to the wall. Take multiple photos. Preview the photos and make sure that there are no shadows around the face. Transfer the photo to you Mac/PC. Use an image editing tool like ImageJ and auto adjust the Brightness/Contract settings. Save the image in the original format. Now you can go online to sites like Walgreens or copy the photo back to the memory card and take it to your local photo printing outlet. You must print wallet size photos that print 4 photos on a 4 X 6. This will give you 4 copies of photos of size 2 X 3. Now you can cut the top and bottom part of each photo to specifications. This printing costs about 99c, way less then that of professional photos which cost about $15.99
60 minutes did a piece on memory pill. I think it is fascinating that such a pill can help people with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD forget or in the least supress bad or frightning memory. It turns out our memories are sort of like Jello – they take time to solidify in our brains. And while they're setting, it's possible to make them stronger or weaker. It all depends on the stress hormone adrenaline. That’s why we remember important and emotional events in our lives more than regular day-to-day experiences. This drug could actually alter and weaken old memories means we're talking about a potentially revolutionary advance in treating post traumatic stress disorder. Here is a direct quote by James McGaugh
"Propranolol sits on that nerve cell and blocks it, so that, think of this as being a key, and this is a lock, the hole in the lock is blocked because of propranolol sitting there. So, adrenaline can be present, but it can't do its job."
Un-Lock you Cell Phone
Ever wonder what to do with you old cell phone after you switched carriers or signed up for a new plan? Here is the remedy. IT worked like a charm. I used this to unlock my cell phone and it really works.
